Hi, my name is Tobi and I'm 25 years old. I like to sing but I'm quite shy and kind of afraid to express myself in front of other people.
A few days ago I recorded myself singing "Because of you" by Kelly Clarkson because I think it's a good song but I can't really decide
whether it's good or not, I can't judge myself, so I thought I could upload it somewhere and ask you to kind of rate it.

It would be nice if you could tell me if it is any good or if it's bad...should I stop singing or what's wrong and what can I do to improve that.

Thank you and have a nice day ;)

The song is attached to this post because I'm not allowed to link to other pages yet: View attachment Because Of You.mp3 (It's 3,04MB)

P.S. Don't be too harsh ?!

overall not too bad, in the chorus the "because of you" line was shaky and a little flat but not bad.

Like this guy said, not too bad. You really should sing louder (yes, even during the verses) and maybe focus on smoother pronunciation there. And when you do a real project, don't mix the vocals quite so loud.

Not bad - a few rough spots. But you should raise the key and give it some punch.

Stop singing immediately. If you're worried about people being harsh then you're too tender a frond to survive.

You either want to know the truth or you don't. Which is it?

Thank you.

Atkron205: I guess I can improve as long as I keep practicing? Are there any special exercises?

Bane01: You mean I should actually sing louder or do you just mean I should put in more energy? What can I exactly do about my pronunciation?

Armistice: I won't stop, I want to know the truth, so tell me, pleeeeaaase?! :D

Your voice is just fine. You handled the song very well. You emotionally connect with your voice (a VITAL skill, that the majority of amateur singers never, ever master). You sing FAR better than the vast majority of people. As with most things in life, it's just a matter of practice, practice and more practice.

Sing both louder and with more energy, and once you back off the levels it will really improve your recording. Just don't get so loud that you lose control of your pitch accuracy and proper breathing intervals.

Yeah, keep it up for sure! You've got a great start with really decent pitch most of the time and a good tone to your voice. Just keep practicing and you'll get where you want to go. You sound good! Good luck.

Nice voice, so yes you can sing. As Bane01 mentioned though you need to work on your articulation. In the first verse I couldn't understand most of the words you were singing. You need to find your inner Pygmalion to help you with pronunciation and articulation. As a person with a bad singing voice, and knows it, I enjoy listening to a good voice and I enjoyed listen to yours.

Great voice and emotions!

One way to articulate better is to think like you are actually speaking the words to someone and you actually mean it. Try it next time.

Also singing to a karaoke or a premix is very different. I can see why your sound doesn't lack much power at the higher notes. The actual song is a bit faster tempo and the premix is a bit slower. Always check the tempo and the pitch of the karaoke of the song.

Thanks for your reply.

I'll try to understand the songs better in the future so that I can sing them with meaning and I guess I'll just keep practicing.
I have one question though. What is more important: technique or emotion?
If I concentrate on techniques I tend to lose some emotion while singing and vice versa...

Have a nice time ;)

Another song, this time in German

I opened another thread for this...
It's called:

"Cover: Revolverheld - Ich lass für dich ein Licht an + question"

Thank you

Not too shabby actually. You absolutely have talent. I sense English isn't your native language? I'd work on your diction a bit but overall you do pretty well. Your pitch is decent which is a big thing.

Who did the recording? It actually came out pretty well.

Both.

Thanks for your nice words. I did the recording myself in my room with a Samson G-Track microphone.
