I don't follow Steve Vai, but that is an excellent track Frank.
I listened out for the 'distortion' at 1:17. I did sound like distortion, but listening further, it is just the raspiness of the bass.

A different bass comes in at certain parts. That's correct.

I'll comment on your lead guitar phrasing as well. As a student of Vai's playing myself, I like how you threw in octave leads and intervals like at 2:10 as well. Tonic/fifth/tonic/fith etc.,Very Vai-ish sounding.

Recorded a new track with the Synergy Vai module

Guitars sound excellent - the buzzy Sawtooth sound starting at 1:17 is on the bass - sounds to me like a cable is funny or something in the connections - It doesn’t sound like an effect.
