The tune is going by the name "Galveston" . I'm still having issues with noise, or hiss. I've gone through the forums and gotten some help but I'm back to square 1. I can only assume it's the stock soundcard causing the problem. Anyway....any coments on the tune or my problem will be appreciated. Thanks people.....http://www.nowhereradio.com/attaboy/singles

Strange, the occasional string noise is so loud that it sounds like it was separately tracked! Is that one track or two? How did you mic it? Did you use fingerpicks?

It might benefit from some compression to bring out the intricacies.

Some nice picking, nice mood piece, although it should progress and develop more.

Yes, I hear the string noise. I was trying to be mindful of it during recording, but on playback I suppose I was in the "selective listening" mode. I'll have to work at that, thanks. I am unsure what type compression to use, as there is a list of about 15 types on my program, but I'll experiment. I used 4 tracks so I could double the lead bit, and I just do my interpretation of a Travis fingerpicking...no picks. I intend to expand on my tunes once I can get the recording end down .As far as the miking...to be honest, I duct taped a Sony mike to a camera tripod and angled it towards the 12th fret....really! Anyway, I appreciate your time. See ya!

What compression plug-in are you using? Most if not all will let you adjust it, but to start with you might want to try a soft and slow compression.

It's not easy to bring the sound out picking with the skin of one's fingers; that's why I prefer fingerpicks (Alaska fingerpicks are the best) or fingernails.

I've tried to use fingerpicks a few times but it's very difficult, I eventually gave up. The fingers do tend to mute the strings a bit...something else for me to be aware of. I'm using Studio7 by Magix. I'm experementing with the compresser it comes with. I tried the fasoft from nTrack, but that seemed to make things worse. I edited all the tracks on that tune I posted, and learned quite a bit in the process...I think I can get some decent results if I edit as I go from now on. My next upload should be quite an improvement. Hope I didn't waste too much of anyones time. Thanks for the tips and comments, and dude,...what's up with that pic? Catch ya later.

Welcome aboard

I agree about a lot of finger slide and pick noise.
But the only way to start to adress those issues is to know they exist by hitting the big red button and submitting the results to places like this.
Good basis for an instrumental song, there might even be a way to work in a vocal.
Keep pluggin away like the rest of us.

Absolutely love your playing and song writing.

Hope you sort out the mic placement/noise things, this is a wonderful piece.

Right Hevy

You're right Hevy. Sometimes I think I shouldn't even be posting here when I listen to what others are doing, but the info and feedback I get here only comes from posting something. I've really dug into the help files on my program, and learned a lot recently...also found some good plugins that should help my timing and minimize noise. Thank you very much Phyl, that means a lot. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't care what other people thought ablut my music. Slim, I'm just teasing. Perhaps I should have a lock for my tongue. You guys are a big help...Thank you.

Calming. I think you have a boost in the string noise frequencies, some high midrange. May be due to your mic. Also, your levels are really low, I had to turn it way up.

hey ok... i could only hear on lo-fi...

but nice song!!!

i like the feel of it, it's very different. the way the melody line runs over the chords. maybe it's the fact that it's written in alternate tuning.

only thing i could say is... some notes seem a little out of tune... maybe they're not, but that's what they sounded like to me. that the guitar may have been a little out of tune.

Where's the singer!

Hey Monkey,

This is just SHOUTING OUT for a vocal! Nice sound, nice chord progression - while I was listening, I started singing over it, and it just flowed. (Not that my voice is either suitable or good enough for this, but a melody just presented itself).

That's what I think anyway...!

Good luck,
Mscmln.

you might have your mics a little too far away. esp. the fingerpicking side of the mix.
you also need to make sure there is no extra noise where your recording... like computer fans.. or halogen lights with dimmers.
that only magnifies the noise ... esp. if there are more than 1 acoustic track.
Its coming along nicely ... enjoyed the listen!
