I'm considering...

sE Electronics RN 17 stereo pair

AMI F44 stereo pair

Peluso P84 stereo pair

Schoeps CMC 6 stereo pair

Anyone have experience with any or all of these for acoustic guitar. They'll be going into a Millennia HV-3C pre. Thank you.

Tom

I don't know the Peluso or the AMI but I've used the Schoeps and the sE. Both are nice on acoustic guitar--the Schoeps would win by a nose (at least to my ear) but I honestly don't thing the small difference would be worth the price.

However, if it was my money, I'd be buying a pair of AKG 451B mics (not a stereo pair but so well matched I've never had a problem). The 451 is my go to mic for acoustics, ahead of anything else I've heard.

a pair of DPA 4011a should definitely be on that list too

I've read where the 4011a is a great acoustic guitar mic but noise can be an issue with them. Can you shed any light on that? I've had no experience at all with them.

I've used the 4011A (rented) on both opera vocals and classical guitar when a performer specifically requested them. I certainly had no noise issues at any normal working level.

There's no doubt they are an excellent mic (and, for the money, they better be). However, if I was spending my own money I really don't think they're different enough from some of the other mics I've used to justify the cost. Any of the mics mentioned so far will be able to capture all the fine nuances of a good acoustic guitar performance and the very subtle differences in tone will be a matter of personal taste. Certainly at this level, the guitar itself, the performance and the acoustics of the recording space will make a far more substantial difference.
