what do I need to hook a shockmount to a regular mic stand?

it depends on the sort of stand you have.

you may require a 3/8>>5/8 adapter or vice versa

or you may require a threaded stand adapter

what stand do you have, and which shockmount?

^^^Must have typing at the same time :D

You'd need a regular mic stand and a shockmount.

There's probably an adapter in the shockmount if it's not fitting on your mic stand. Take a flat head screwdriver and unscrew it. Hope that helps.

Does the top piece remove?

Hi,

Does the top piece (in the photo) come off? Can you loosen that black thumbscrew and dissasemble it down to the gold fitting?

That top piece looks like a specialty bracket for a particular job to me. Maybe the gold connecter attaches to the mic stand.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

that top piece is a 3/8 adapter. yes it screws off...
for stand stuff... http://www.micsupply.com/standaccessories.htm these guys are great! the photo you see is for stands (such as photog stands or the ilk) that do not have a thread mount, but just a post..the assembly screws over the top, and provides a threaded rod for the shockmount/stereo bar..
