So give it a lizzen....

I re-did the guitars to this and worked on the guitar sound more than I usually do (but always should have). I think I got rid of the buzzy "direct" sound I was getting, even though I was miking my amp. Hope the guitars sound a little fuller and warmer...and any other issues you might hear with the mix is always appreciated....thanx

(EDIT: I think the cymbals are a little loud, which is just a matter of turning down the overheads)

Your guitars are organic and sounding very nice together with the Drums and bass.

I like the tones of the instruments. I think the guitars sound good, but need to be turned up a bit in the mix. The kick is a bit loud in my opinion, but I do enjoy its click. Sounds like a well prepared recording and not just a "slap a mic on the instruments" ditty. I'd like to know your drum recording methods. I'm always very interested in that. Keep em' comin!

Wow! those are some amazing sounding drums RAMI, and equally amazing playing......

The guitars sound good, not buzzing at all, lots of crunch....

I like the background vocals being a little louder on the "Comin Down" part - gives it more build up/dynamic feeling.....

Unless I listen specifically for the stops they don't stand out - seem to flow fine on this mix.

I'm hearing some cool effects on the guitars that I don't remember hearing before.

Nice harmonies....

Cymbals seem to be ok to me....really like the way you keep the hi-hat at a decent volume compared to the snare.

This is an good mix that gives you something new each time you listen.....

Nak, glad the guits sound better. I wasn't using the speaker simulator before. I didn't think I was supposed to since I was miking an amp. But it turns out that that's why I was still getting a direct type sound. I doubled the 2 guitar parts by playing each part twice (4 tracks) throughtout the tune. I've never done that before and don't really know if I'm "supposed" to do that. Also, I used the neck pick up in the solo. I've always used the bridge pick up, so it almost sounds too fat to me because I'm not used to hearing myself like that.

Fattmuzik...You're right about the kik. I just put up another mix with the drums a little bit lower. Good ears :)

IDO, as always I appreciate your comments. The stops don't stand out now because I didn't silence them like in the other version. I bet if you listen closely on headphones, you'll hear my headphones leaking into the drum mics during the stops. As far as the guitars, I might have added some delay to a part or 2 that wasn't there before, but they might just sound different because I re-recorded them altogether...Thanx alot!
 
Ok - mix with the drums a little lower allows the rest of the instruments/vocals to come out a little more. Levels are sitting really good and even throughout, but the drums still driving it along nicely....good remix.....(and fast!) :D :D :D :D :D

Ok, cool man. I think it's a better mix. Good punchy drums, you got the bass sitting well, with a great tone, and the guitar has a nice, dirty tone. Vocals are spot on. The harmonies/doubles you do interact very well together. I like that it has a somewhat dry sound to it. Just enough roughness around the edges. Nice, under-polished feel. The dynamics make the whole song sound a bit dirtier, and harder than it is. Nice punch to the whole thing.

I like it man.... :cool:

I could hear the improvement loud an clear, when I pressed play, and it wasent a small improvement.
It was huge on the guitars, No offense, but this is the best guitar sound I`ve heard you have.

Its defenitly a sound I would stive for, and might I add nice playing as well.

The solo with the neck pickup is a well used trick, I use it all the time, it sort of makes the solos stand out more IMHO, with less need of increasing the volume.

I think everything was spot on, and the dry sound gives me goosebumps.

Seriously a great recording :cool:
 
Thanx for the comments, guys. And thanx for commenting on this tune the first time around. It made me work to improve it, which I wouldn't have done if I didn't have people's observations. Now, I have to go back and re-record the guitars on all my past tunes that I want to keep. I can't keep the guitar on any of my old tunes now.

FATTMUSIK: I forgot to answer your question about the drum set up, didn't mean to ignore you on that one. There's not much to tell. I use 4 mics (57=snare, D12=kik, 2XC1000's=overheads). I place one overhead directly above the snare pointing down at the centre of it. I put the other overhead over my left shoulder (it would be everyone else's right shoulder, I'm a lefty) equal distance from the snare, also pointing at it. I don't compress or eq while tracking, and then add everything later.

I hadn't noticed the 1st little harmonics gliss before.
Two takes - panned away from each other is something of an industry sandard for good guitar sound I've read.

sounds great man...the drum sound really good...maybe just a **** hair too loud compared to the guitar...well done!!

Wow Rami, this song has come a long way. In case nobody has meantioned it, guitars sound badas$! My favorite gutiar sounds from you yet. Thick and rockin :D Overall mix sounds great and punchy to me, well balanced and rockin. Nice work!

Someone did tell me that they are a little tame and can use some more distortion. I made sure to follow the advice of many people and articles that say "Put a little less distortion than you think you need, especially if doubling tracks." I might have ovedone the "not too much distortion". But, anyway, I'm happy enough to keep it for now. Thanx alot!!!

Ps for what its worth I think you used just enough distrotion.
I like the modest use of distrotion, helps making the sound clean and airy.
Pluss it sounds kinda 70`s
