This might be a stupid question, but would you recommend a Pop filter for singing vocals (R&B/Neo Soulish) on a SM57 or SM58?

Why or why not?

This is a Sampson SH 58?

Why would you use a performance dynamic for studio vocals?

Seems a pop filter would be redundant, but if it's in the studio, it may help a singer with poor mic discipline to keep a steady distance.

blah blah blah msg must be at least 10 chars long...

no.

well, it wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't say it's essential wit the 58. Some singers are more comfortable without one, but after years of doing live shows they've learned to work the mic. I use a pop filter. No accidental pops, no chance of ruining a good performance.

I wouldn't use a 57 on vocals if I had a 58 available.

The short form is- if it pops, yes. If it doesn't, no.-Richie

The 57 is every bit as good as the 58 on vox, neither require a pop filter, unless they pop

Don't know if this is the place to post this but here goes...
I'm in the market for a home studio mic. (Mostly acoustic stuff, mainly Vocals, pianos and guitar... The only problem is that it needs to be USB.
Can anyone recommend a good studio quality mic? I've looked at a few and have seen the SHURE PG-42 USB mic and was wondering if it is any good? Plus, I was unsure weather the SHURE SH-58 with an X2U USB adapter would be better. If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be really grateful.

Yo Matt! No, this isn't the right place to post your question. What with 3 posts and a basic question, I would think you should have started a new thread on the Newbies forum. If you have a bit of experience, the mic forum would be OK. Ask, and ye shall receive. However, expect to be told that USB mics suck, and that folks with years of experience are going to try to talk you out of them. If you are wise, you will let them. Whatever you want to do, there are alternative better ways for the same money than a USB mic. Let's not attempt a thread hijack here. Take it to the right forum and start a thread to ask your question, and I, for one, will try to give you a clue.-Richie

That was a word from our sponsor.:laughings: that was a good answer Richard.:D
Now back to the program.....
NO! The 58 already has one internally. But like everyone has said..... if you make it pop you best be using one.

I thought the SH 57 / 58 were a new low noise option from Shhhhhure...

:)

Sorry, should have let the old thread die, but I do love a 57/58 thread...
