Hey could someone help me out? I have an SG special.. I'm looking for one of those nice tailpeices like Angus Youngs.. i'm pretty sure they have it on the Angus Young model... it was also on the 1963 and 1964 SG Standards... any ideas where I can find one?

Find yourself a copy of Vintage Guitar Magazine and browse thru the hundreds of ads. Many of the dealers that advertise in VGM list guitar parts and other speacialize in selling parts, Guitar junkyards if you will.

They also put those on other models in the mid 60's, like firebirds, they had a name for 'em . . . long tailpiece or something.

was it a bigsby?

Heavy cast-iron vibrato tailpiece used on sone gibsons in the 60s.

Hey Tommy -
Ain't no gibson that ever come out of Kalamazoo with a bigsby on it - stock. If you know of a model that did - enlighten me.

can't say if it was stock but...

My brother played in a band in the 70s and the lead guitar player had a puke-green 335 with a bigsby that I've personally held and played.I seem to recall all gibsons I EVER saw with a vibrato tailpiece were wearing bigsbys. It may well have been aftermarket though.
Look back to the original post and see that "stock" wasn't the criterion mentioned,so don't get too exited jonesy.

Oh - I'm just a sucker for shop talk. The green 335 you mentioned sounds neat. I had a '58 special with a bigsby on it - aftermarket add on .

i heard they had intonation problems...

Was yours ok in that respect?I'm a former Jackson/Charvel tech but I grew up on Gibsons(starting with a melody maker in '64).My little brother just picked up an Epi Joe Pass last weekend for 6 bills and it is one of the better plywood guitars I've played.
regards
Tom
