Potentiometer?

Just came back from a guitar shop, where i asked if they install a single coil-sized humbucker into a strat.
they told me they do, but that i also have to change the guitar's Potentiometer.
what's that about??

thanks. i see.
but how will changing the potentiometer will effect my 2 other pickups?
it's an s-s-s set.
