I posted this over in the MIDI thread. Nobody replied so I am going to try it here. I am trying to interface my yamaha AW 16G with a Boss 670 drum machine, Roland D-70 synthesizer and Pro Tools LE 7 on my computer. I have 2 4x4 MIDIMANs. I am guessing that the AW should be set as the master. Could anyone give me an idea of how I can make this happen? I would like for the AW to be the controller for Pro Tools. Is this possible?

If you're looking to drive PT with your AW, it's probably not going to happen. The only interfaces I know that talk to Pro Tools are primarily only the ones made by Digidesign.

im not familiar with the yamaha AW, but i do know this;in Pro Tools 7, there is a setup box somewhere, i will look later, im not connected to my digi 002, and in that box there is a tab that says "controllers" or something along those lines. question, do you have a mac or pc? in mac you need to configure the AMS setup. if you're running a pc you have to go Apple.com and buy a mac (joking, dont kill me, theres nothing wrong with PC). i will look later, help is here! (i hope, cause then im going to look stupid)

ok, in pro tools, go to setup, peripherals. the tab called midi controllers might do the trick. you would have to select which one its most like, if its a control surface, the Control 8 will work. set your sends and and recieve and you should be ok.
let me know if this works out for you.

Thank you so much. i am a US Army Soldier just trying to win this battle. I am actually enrolled in a Pro Tools class at a local college. On my AW, there is a menu where I can select Pro Tools. I need to know where to go from there. Thank you for any assistance that you can give a brother.

thank you for defending my poor ass! i'll bet boot camp was WAYY easier than getting your Pro Tools setup working.. i just checked out the AW, i wasnt sure what it was exactly. how are you going into the computer? i see you have an ADAT i/o. do you have a soundcard with ADAT i/o? if you do, you need to have your soundcard setup correctly first, then you use your adat i/o to give you 8 channels. you set up the midi controls as stated before and your board and pro tools should be able to sync. the only problem i see is getting your soundcard to work with pro tools.

options:
1) Get an M-Audio soundcard, such as the FireWire 1814, or somthing similar with an ADAT lightpipe and get ProTools M-Powered. cost: 500 for the hardware, 250 for the software.

2) Pray to god that you can somehow get an alternative soundcard to work with ProTools. i dont know how successful you will be but there are plenty of internet resources to help.
have fun!

Thanks bro. Actually, Pro Tools will not play through the soundcard. The sound comes out of the M-Box.
