Hi Guys

I got a question i use fruityloops to mixdown my songs and t-racks to master them everytime i mix down the songs the levels are always at 0dbs but the volume is always to loud in cd players does anyone know if i should use a two track recorder and lower the volume and if i do what volume level is it normally set at

Thanks

You are either mixing way too hot or you are smashing the mix too hard in T-racks. Your mix should never be anywhere near 0db. You can bring it up to 0db in t-racks.

I gave you points just for being one of the first - if not the only - newb to complain that their master was too loud. ;).

If you post is accurate and your mixdown is at 0dBFS before mastering, you're not leaving yourself any room to do much of anything at the mastering stage except squeeze the life out of the mix, which will almost certainly make it "too loud".

If you are boosting the volume of your mix via normalizing or vanilla volume boost as the first step before you start mangling it further with T-racks, don't. Let the volume take care of itself (more or less) during mastering.

If you are not boosting the volume of your mix but it's just coming out of the mix too loud anyway, then you may have a gain staging or volume problem somewhere earlier in the trackng or mixing process that is allowing you to mix tracks together that individually are too hot to begin with.

If all of that is OK, then you need to jst lay off onthe mastering because you're probably mangling your mix too hard.
