I just put a band together and we are soon going to practice. I need some help setting up the p.a. I am using a tascam m208
Here are some questions I have:

1. How would I connect my 2 yamaha br speakers to the board? Do I just use the 1/4 outs?

2. Do I need a power amp to power those speakers?

3. How would I set up monitors so we can hear ourselves?

4. Would I need another power amp to power my monitors?

1. You'd use the stereo out jacks and either the XLR or 1/4" jacks. it depends on the amplifier or speakers.

2. Are the Yamaha speakers self amplied? If so, then hook the stereo outs straight to them. if they are passive (no onboard amplifier) then yes you need an amp.

3. You use the FLB bus. That's your monitor buss. Mix the sounds for the monitors on each channel strip and then set the output level with the FLB master knob and hook up the speakers or the amplifier to the 1/4" FLB out jack.

4. same as #2...if your speakers are active (have their own amplifier) then you hook straight to the mixer. If they are passive then you need an amplifier.

From my search, those are not self-powered speakers. You WILL need a power amp.

Pay a local live sound guy $50 and a few beers to come help you get set up the first time. It will save you $1000 in time and stress.
