i've got my alesis Io 26 connected in Cubase, but I cant get playback for Cubase or even Audacity. I can record and I can see the waveform after I record, but no playback when I hit play. What's wrong?

I'm not familiar with the Alesis, but check and make sure that your output busses are right (in Cubase). Are your monitors hooked up to the Alesis? You'll need to make sure that your output busses are routed to what ever jacks your monitors/speakers are plugged into. Then, you need to make sure that the tracks are routed to that buss.

Make sure your outputs are being sent to the correct places. You may also want to check to see if the alesis has a 'monitor' dial. Make sure this is turned all the way over to playback, otherwise you will be direct monitoring hardware inputs.
