Hello there! I have just invested in some new gear, enough to get me started on the road to doing some home recording! Right, just need a few pointers in setting it all up. I have looked online but I am getting a little confused as to how it all goes together as there are many, often conflicted opinions.

I have a Yamaha MG 124 Mixing console, going into an Audiophile 192 soundcard with a pair of Mackie MR8 Monitors. I have read you can connect the monitors directly to the computer soundcard, but run the risk of blowing them due to unexpected sound bursts from various software on the computer so I would like to avoid this option. Is it best to have the soundcard's outputs returning into the mixer using the +4dBu Return, then having the monitors coming out of the Monitor out on the mixer? Would this cause a lack of quality of the sound or affect the returning level of volume in anyway?

Also, what cables would be best for this sort of operation? I have balanced XLR leads for the monitors, but am unsure whether I would need unbalanced ones to use for the returning signal from the soundcard to the +4dBu Return connections. Anyone who is using this mixer and has any advice, let me know asap! Cheers!!

Kyle
