Set to Left-only, but get only one waveform

Hello,

I'm new at using cool edit, but I was successfully able to record 3 tracks just the way I wanted. However, I saved the session and went to start the 4th track, and discovered that instead of getting sound out of both headphones, the latest track records only to one. i.e. i don't get two waveforms (one on top of the other) per track, I just get one.

I tried recording on the other tracks as well, and they are now all recording the same way... I don't know what I did.

Only thing I can think of is that I unplugged my USB mic interface from my machine to listen to the first three tracks directly from my machine's soundcard (having the interface plugged in bypasses the onboard sound card). I'm not sure if the USB interface (M-audio Fast Track) is the problem, or if it's a setting in Cool Edit. All the tracks are set to L-only, which is what I originally recorded the good tracks with.

Please help, it's driving me nuts... thanks in advance.

Try and double the wave-form, or try to convert to stereo track.

Left Only just records the left signal as a mono signal so tyhere is only one waveform per track.

goto the REC 1 thingy on the side and click it and pick stereo and check USE FOR ALL TRACKS

if u picked left only to try to pan things just pan them after on the left side of the screen

clicking on stereo will still only record on the left side if the signal is only on the left side. Do your other tracks have one wave form right down the middle of the track or does it have 2 forms, one on top of the other? You actually just want one wave form down the middle unless you are using 2 mics. Using 2 mics is the only way to TRULY record in stereo.

In the track's recording properties, set the record input to the left channel. It will record only the left input signal as a MONO track. When you play it back, unless you pan it, it will play out of both Left and Right speakers.

If you are recording in mono (left only?) you should set the track recording properties like this anyway, to reduce large file sizes that stereo tracks produce.
