ok, so, wiring (4) 8ohm speakers in series parallel, gives me a 4 ohm load, correct?

No, it gives you an 8 ohm load. Wiring two 8 ohm speakers in parallel gives you 4 ohms. Wiring those two 4 ohm loads in series gives you 8 ohms again.

ok, so, in series parallel, you put 2 parallels in a series.

can you put two series in parallel?

Yes, in which case you have 16 ohm parallel with 16 ohm = 8 ohm.

Equivalent Series Resistance = R1+R2+.....Rx
Equivalent Parallel Resistance =(R1*R2*....Rx)/(R1+R2+....Rx)

Yeah, but what if you wire the two speakers using both methods? Will the universe implode?

No, but your power amp might ;)

True, but it may look spectacular with all of the flashes, sparks and smoke. :D

Hmm, let's see, that would be a dead short between + and -...
Ever seen a wire strip itself as it heated up and vaporized the insulation, it's pretty cool, I highly suggest you try it. If only connect the power momentarily you can make a wire "smoke" like it's puffing a cigarette. :D

This reminds me of a funny story many years ago...(early 2001?)...anyway, I worked at the time, for a mid-size software development company and our virus protection software kept getting clobbered by viruses. So, I emailed the entire company and said "I'm too lazy to write my own virus, so everyone, please just delete all of the files on your hard drive. Thank you for your support." The funny part is that a few people responded to verify my request. Since then, I've tried to be careful not to direct people thru the written word with sarcastic mis-information...however, to me it was obvious. :D
