bite the bullet!

do what I do! Just sell your old computer..keep the good sound/video card you've got and enable the onboard sound or get a cheapie pci sound card..do the same with the video if you have a good video card.

I usually end up getting quite an upgrade for only a couple hundred dollars out of pocket...

Trust me, I would love to buy another computer, but it's not financially feasible at this moment. Would that adapter work?

My PC:

Asus P4T533-C Mobo
1gig RDRAM
P4 2.4 GHz (533FSB)
40Gig Seagate 7200rpm, 2mb cache (OS)
160Gig Seagate 7200rpm, 8mb cache (audio)
2x Aardvark DP2496 sound card
Geforce 3 Ti200 Graphics card

Don't get me wrong, I love my system. I just want to upgrade my OS HDD.

I figure if I wanted a new Mobo and ddram, I'll be out about $350. Not wise right now. Thanks.

For $21 you can't really go wrong.

However don't expect a huge performance increase. The theoretical maximum throughput goes from 133MB/s on a pata to 150MB/s on the sata

Thanks.

BTW, isn't SATA2 supposed to come out sometime soon?

I have an SATA harddrive, but I wouldn't buy one with an adaptor if my motherboard didn't already have the port. Its not really that much of a performance increase.

The transfer speed of 100meg/sec, 133 megs/sec, and 150 megs/sec is just burst transfer...the fastest it will be. Most computers very rarely even reach that of the 133 burst often enough for it to matter.
