I am but a simple bass player looking to incorporate loops and samples live. I do a lot of recording in ACID 3 and I love them loops, but as for recreating them onstage I don't have a clue. Can anyone recommend a good setup, involving transfer of WAV files from the computer to the sequencer, (all of course as cheap as possible)?

Thanks!

I'd go with a very good sampler, with alot of ram. (like those yamaha's, A4000 or something. Or the akai. Don't know what number they are at.) And some basic little hardware sequencer.

We program alot of songs with a Yamaha A3000 and a QY70 sequencer. That sequencer is as portable as a computer game btw, you can even play with it on the bus.

Roel,

so the sampler is probably the expensive part, basically a storage unit for my samples, and the sequencer is cheaper, and is used to trigger them? How much are those Akais and Yamahas going for?

Another question: in a live setting, who controls these things? Do you have someone specifically in charge, or can they just go by themselves?

I appreciate the help.

If your samples are small Boss makes a lot of DJ/Guitarist sample boxes that you can trigger with pedals. They will usually store a bunch of samples with a minute or two of storage.

tex got a point here.. it all depends on how much sampling and how great complexity we're talking about...

We don't use the sequencer as a sequencer live... mostly I just trigger the samples from my keyboard. In studio we trigger them from the sequencer. Doing this live would be just the same, just start the sequencer, and change the pattern where needed...
