i was reading an article about mixing and mastering and came across a technique called seperation and how great it can make your mix's sound but the article never explained how to do it, just all the benifits(according to the writer) it can have

so can anyone break it down for me.....

Are you talking about "Separation Mastering"? It's a marketing term used by John Vestman for mastering from stems.
