Hello i am buying the "Behringer Eurorack UB1204FX-PRO Mixer"
and i currently have a
Compaqu Persario with Cool Edit Pro 2.0
and a standard stock soundcard (line in,line out,mic in)
I am recording through the mixer and into the computer the only problem is that i want to seperate tracks on Multitrack view if that is possible.
For example if i recorded snare, kick, and overhead through the mixer it all comes out to be one track on Cool Edit.
Is there a certain way to setup the mixer to the computer to do this or do i have to change the settings on my Cool Edit Pro 2.0?

thanks

You need a soundcard with more than one input. You have to record them on separate tracks to begin with. There is no way to separate them once they are mixed together like that.

but is there a way to seperate them before they are mixed?

Using the stock soundcard's line in you will be able to track 2 seperate or a single stereo track at a time, you would need to have a soundcard with multiple inputs, and a mixer with multiple outputs (busses, direct outs, insert points that can be used as direct outs), in order to record multiple tracks at one time.

One track to two track

Uhhhh, it’s so difficult to explain but you can record your kick and snare to one track, save one copy as mp3-file and send it to me by e-mail.

gasal @ online . no

I'll do it for you (for free, of course), send it back to you (as two tracks) so you can mix them separately in the way you like it.
In the case you are satisfied with the result we can do the same with wav-files. I can send you explanations about how I've done it.
Right now I'm running out of time.

use your line in and mic in... that's two separate tracks right there... (long as your soundcard is capable of it). then just split the left and right stereo and record it mono. that would theoretically make 4 inputs. mic in left, mic in right, line in left, line in right... then just record them mono.

You'd need a soundcard whose outputs (line and mic) would be seen as separate identities in Options > Device Properties to do that. Unlikely.
