Seperate drum tracks

I program my drum tracks separately in HomeStudio2004XL. Bass on one track, snares on another, etc. etc. I use Channel 10 for all my separate tracks. How can I have the crash cymbals going to the left speaker and the hi hats going to the right speaker, with the bass drum dead center, maracas left, etc. etc. It seems that as long as they are all on channel 10 they arre pretty much much joined at the hip as far as panning goes.

Hope I explained myself properly.

Does anybody know what I am doing wrong?

It's not possible if you only use Channel 10. But it really shouldn't be a problem using more Channels.

Render each drum track to a seperate audio track. Then you can deal with them in the same manner as you would any other audio track.

How do you assign drum sounds to a Channel other than 10?

When I try using other channels I get a piano sound instead of a hi hat?

What MIDI-source do you have? And please don't say "Microsoft GM Softsynth".

OK you got me. That is my source. Why is that a bad thing?

thanks moskus.

You're a gentleman and a scholar and a judge of fine liquor. Although I'm not sure in which order.

That doesen't matter! Thank you! :D

I have a suggestion for a drumkit: Gold Drums

Moskus!!

Hey Moskus I downloaded Gold Drums and got the SFPack, the whole thing.

Now I am new to the whole soundfont thing and quite franky I have never used the Dyad but I have been playing around with it the last couple of nights and it could be really useful.

With Gold Drums, is there a map that tells you what key is which part of the drun kit? Also, how does this solve my problem of separating different parts of the kit across the channels(cymbals left, hi hat right, kick center, etc.). I've been trying out different things the last couple of sessions and I can't seem to get the separation.

Thanks

Quite frankly, it doesen't. But GoldDrums should respond to other channels than 10, meaning you should be able to use more than one channle for the drums. :)

You need to use more than one track for drums with each drum on its own track.... all of them can be pointed to Channel 10.

If you have a MIDI file that you want separated out to different tracks so that all drums are on separate tracks, go to this page and pick up the free "mididrum" application. It will split them for you...

That's not gonna work. Two MIDI-tracks running on the same channel will result in the settings from one of the tracks being used for Channel 10.

Okay so I can set up say three different tracks with GoldDrums:

Kick Drum using Channel 1
Snare Channel 2
Hats Channel 3

Each can go to whatever speaker I point it to and I should be okay??

Thanks
Moskus.

THanks for the drum map as well. I'll take a look at it tonight.
