Sennheiser e609 vs e609 silver

Forgive me if I'm bringing up something that has been discussed, but I couldn't find it here.

I have an e609 silver and really like it. I use it alot for recording along with another mic (usually an akg 414) a bit away from the speaker. I have noticed that some engineers use a combination of the normal e609 and sm57 on guitar cabs for live use. This setup was used at the Reading festival in London last year alot for example.

I am going to pick up a second e609 for the other guitarist in my band. I was just wondering if anyone had both and could describe the differences between them ?

There is a significant difference in the price, and the response curve.

The E609 Silver has a +8dB peak at 4K, where the more expensive E609 (black) is flat.

The E609 has also been discontinued.

The original is supposed to be extremely dark sounding.
