Sennheiser e609, thoughts?

I've always just used an SM57 for miking guitar cabs, but I thought it might be time for a little change. After reading about this microphone being really good on guitar cabinets, I thought I would ask you dudes. I'm not quite getting the clear, distinct sound from an SM57 that I want, just curious if this would be a good mic for it. Any help is appreciated, thanks dudes. =]

I like to mic in stereo and use a 609 on one side and a 57 on the other....the 609 seems to have a little more high end. Its also a great snare mic...
 
Yep, what he said. The 57 gets that low-mid thing going, and the 609 peaks in a slightly higher register, which for me tends to work better in a mix. Plus, placement is nice and easy, and I've even liked them on bass cabs paired up with something else - the 609 gets that 750 hz growl while something else can pick up the low end. Definitely a cool mic and well worth the $ when compared to something like a 57, IMO.
 
I love the thing. If I had some cash, I would definitely pick up probably 2 more.
Angle it towards the outside of the speaker cone to calm down those highs and it works really great.

Works well for live use to, it hardly picks up anything but what it's pointed directly at.

I haven't really tried it on much else besides guitar amps/cabs, but it did do well on the bottom of a snare one time.
 
Awesome, glad to hear. That's what my guitars are lacking, that high end clarity. I would definitely use the 57 + e609 combo. I'll probably be picking one of these up soon. =] Thanks dudes. If anyone else wants to add, please do!

I like the e609s for micing a cab for live applications especially. I have gotten really great tone with an e609s and an Audix i5 in stereo.
 
i've been using a 609 and an MXL V77 in "stereo". they do very well together.

there have been plenty of threads about the 609.....use the search function. :D

I actually tried dude but the search string didn't bring anything up. I searched e609, Sennheiser e609, and e609 microphone but nothing came up. Maybe I mispelled something, haha.
