So, we're sold out of all our hard copies of our album. I'm wanting to find a site that can host the album's mp3s, and when I send somebody there, they can pay through the site and then get a zip of the album or something.

Anyone have any good places to do this?

I don't want to do itunes/cdbaby for these albums.
I don't want to do soundclick.

I'm at the point even where if I could find good scripts to password protect a zip file on my own webspace, perhaps that'd be the way to go. Not sure though.....ha.

Check out www.PayLoadz.com. It's free if you host the files on your server. That's what I use for my web site and it works great. You need a PayPal account for payment. When you log onto PayLoadz, you set up your "product". You set your price and enter the URL on your server that points to the ZIP file you want to sell. Then a PayPal button code is generated. You paste the HTML code into your web page and voila!

Now, when a person visits your site and wants to buy you album, they just click on the PayPal button and they will be able to check out. They don't even have to have a PayPal account if they use a credit card. Once the transaction is complete, PayLoadz will email a link to your customer. The link is somewhat scambled so that that customer can't just email the url to everyone they know. The link expires after 48 hours. I think it works pretty well.

You are charged the normal PayPal fees for the transaction. I think PayPal has a "micro-payments" account option now, then the fees will be less, however you have to ahve a separate PayPal accoutn for micro-payments and regular payments, kind fo a bummer. I haven't set up a micro-payments account so my transaction fees are about $0.45 on a $5 transaction.

payloadz - i have to look that up right away

btw, why no itunes or soundclick? and what about the others, like Napster, not sure how many others there are, but there must be quite a few

well, for itunes/napster/etc... you have to go through another company most the time, like cdbaby or something. We are doing that with the new album (as soon as I get them back frmo the company who's pressing them..should be soon! haha.). However, It's not really worth it for some older album's we've done to go through all of that, additionally we have no more copies left to sell - just mp3s.

soundclick, they take 50% of the money, so I have to charge double for the cd then I want to. Additionally, you have to join soundclick to be able to buy the album. Also, 128kbps unless you pay soundclick a monthly fee. ALSO, my friend just let me know that buyers will have to deposit money into soundclick (minimum of 10-20 bucks so he says), and then from THAT money they can buy the cd. It's just a huge hassle for the unknowning customer.

Payloadz will def. be the way to go, esp. with me having 200MB of webspace at my disposal. Thanks guys.

CD Baby will do this, but be warned that they are not quick...our CD has been in there hands for almost a month now, and we are still not up on ITunes (but it shouldn't be too long now). I know they will require you to send them at least 5 hard copy CDs to start, so if you're not planning on pressing anymore, then that option would be out. I do believe that ITunes has a program for the artists to post their own stuff/maintain their own account. i think this link may help with the direct through ITunes info... http://www.apple.com/itunes/musicmarketing/

over a month and not up there yet? what the hell, that really irritates me....

I "applied" for the itunes thing on that link, but they said to go through another service to get it up there....any other link(s) I'm missing on there? Think I can just download "itunes producer" and do it? ha!
