When I select a track, it turns the record enable button on. Is there a way to turn that off so it doesn't enable it every time I click on a track?

yes, just take the one nanosecond to click the button back off.

That's not what I asked.
i understand that but if you dont mind me asking, why is it such a problem? ive noticed that too in cubase, but it doesnt bother me. what are you doing that this little thing creates a problem? im only asking because maybe youre doing some process that i dont know about and would like to try.

Because sometimes I forget to turn if off and it's a pain.

Yeah, that was the first place I looked, but it's 800+ pages and search is coming up with an answer.

Its in File>Preferences somewhere. I think maybe the 'recording' section or something. I can't look at Cubase right now to see. Just flick through all the sections in preferences and you should find it.

File, Preferences, Editing, then click off "Enable record on selected tracks". that will fix your problem. ;)

One step was left out on Cubase SX 3

I got lost looking for the answer you gave. Seems there was 1 more step to the sequence. FILE - PREFERENCE - EDITING - (sub menu) PROJECT & MIXER - then ENABLE REC on SELECTED TRACK. I suppose a monkey would get it without much confusion, but I had to look real close. Just the ways of an old fart suffering from the passing of time.

Carter........was not trying to get anyone, just thought that the other step might make it easier to find. I have so much to learn about cubase
SX ..........wish I could take a REAL course on it, where the teacher would take a sound and put it into a track....then show how to copy it and make a loop, then tell me about midi and what its about, yep hundreds to things that I should know......I don't even understand punch in-punch-out...........I have books, dvd's, CDs and web tutorials......all of which to me are not quite what they are built up to be when they sell you the stuff. Mostly I learn my trying different things.......but need to no all the so called things. Just glad I got some good hardware to do the job.
