Seeking Music Compser suggestions

I am currently using Encore for composition, does any one have a better/easier alternative? I've tried a friends copy of Sibelius, but it was not to my liking and is expensive. I might be persuaded to give it another chance however.

Maybe Finale has a demo you can download and try.

The recent issue of Keyboard mag does a review of the various composition/scoring software - I haven't read the artical yet - but it looks like it could be a good read if you're in the market.

Noteworthy is a good freebie, although admittedly it's not a package on the scale of the others...
