hi - this is my second project in recording (using reaper). it's a hayes carll song (americana) with a couple of acoustic guitar tracks, banjo, bass, vocals/harmony
any and all feedback please!
in particular, how is the relative volume of vocals to rest of track
Vocal level is fine but you seem to pull down the guitars too much when the vocal starts... also the banjo comes and goes and the lead in the middle is too rich and has too much space/reverb. Try a super dry mix to get the levels right and then sweeten.
Yes, I agree with the others. The guitar just loses too much volume at the exact moment that the vocals kick in. I would've thought that the level the acoustic was at in the intro would have been fine alongside these vocals (which sound good). The level on the banjo is better as I could at least make it out throughout. I think you understandably would want the vocals out front on something like this though...maybe just alter that ratio a bit in favor of some of the instruments?
Is this your second recording ever? If so, you are way ahead of the curve dude. Either way, it's a nice, mellow performance.
