Second piece of music done on my MR8

My new routine is to record tracks on the MR8, move them to the PC and then do the mix with n-track. A 256M card capacity serves me just fine.

I call this song Starlit Sky.

Hey Digit,

Very soothing music you got there! The guitar playing reminds me a bit of some of Knopfler's stuff from his movie soundtracks.

I think your guitar playing is good, but just be a bit more assertive and go for the gusto. It seems like you are holding back a little. Perhaps a stronger, more fuller sound on the guitar would make Starlit Sky a masterpiece.

Did you record the guitar directly into the MR-8 or did you mic it?

Anyway, good work Digit! It's better than anything I could do.

All the guitar and bass parts are recorded to the MR8 through a J-Station.

Knopfler Fan, my playing shouldn't be compare to Mark's, although I do enjoy playing Sultans of Swing. One of my favorite CDs is Love Over Gold.

Clif, your groovy description of my song made it sound better than it is. So, thank you.

bd, I'm an over 50 geezer, so I do know Bread (although I've never been a fan).

Nicely done! Very easy on the ears.... plaintive and peaceful.
Recorded well. Form of song is well thought out ......16 bars of chord outline, melody, melody in unison then in harmony then more melodic layering till the fade...good interplay between Dmaj and dmin modality. You might want to clean up both guitar parts between 2:13 and 2:17.
Overall execution could be more a tad more aggresive even on a delicate piece such as this.
Athough Starlit Sky is just fine the way it is, be careful in your upcoming tunes to vary the melodic contour of the lead as it's desirable to disguise descending and ascending scales with a healthy mixture of steps and skips. Also keep in mind that the 3rd and 7th are the strongest notes of any chord and are great places to start a melody.

You know it's funny, way back when I was giggin, I never got tired of playin that song....unlike a whole pile of other songs. It's just so much fun to play.

Thanks for listening and the help with music writing. I have just a little music theory background, but I really like playing around with key changes in music, and Starlit Sky is the result of one such experiment. Your input is going to help with future efforts. I am strictly an amateur, but I do it just for the love of it.

I play Sultans, but I never said I play it like Mark Knopfler. If I post my attempts at Sultans, you will find out quickly how much of an amateur I am. LOL.
