I've searched but can't find a resource for setting up a dedicated drive for recording the audio in cakewalk pro audio 8. Is it just a matter of selecting the wavedata folder to write to it, or are other settings supposed to be directed there also.
I imagine that some or most of you do this. Does it improve the performance more than just partitioning a single drive for programs and audio? I haven't purchased another drive yet so I can't run any comparisons yet.
Thanks for any direction.

If I understand your question correctly, you just install a second hard drive and then point your wave data folder to the new hard drive.

Leave everything else (OS, Cakewalk/Sonar, picture folder, etc.) on your boot drive.

Thanks for the quick reply. I believe you understood my question correctly. I'll give it a try with an additional dedicated hard drive. Up till now I was just using one drive and was planning on adding another for recording the actual audio to. I have a backup image of the OS, drivers, etc. in case I have to reinstall the system.
I was wondering if the separate drive would improve performance more than just partitioning one drive into 2 partitions... one for the OS and programs and one for the actual wave data... and what should actually be stored in that audio partition (or hard drive).
Please forgive me if my question seemed to have an obvious answer but I was unsure exactly how that Cakewalk program stored it's data.

The advantage of a second drive over a partition, is that the computer can read/write to both drives simultaneously. (You should, btw, install them on separate IDE controllers.)

The only thing that should be stored on your audio drive is the actual wave data files. That will be accomplished by pointing your audio data folder in Cakewalk to the audio drive. Everything else should be on your boot drive. (Note: I do also use my audio drive to store backup bundles files.)
