Hi All,

Apologies if this has been posted before (most likely it has) - if anyone could direct me to the existing thread that would be great!

I work mainly with vocals, in my home studio which is entirely untreated. I have the usual mixture of blankets/duvets up to at least dull some excess sound picked up by the mics I use, but for some time have been looking at getting a portable vocal booth.

The one which has the best reputation and reviews seems to be the sE Reflexion Filter Pro - which is patented by sE.

Does anyone have any experience with this - or can anyone advise on the differences, pros and cons between a portable booth and the RealTraps Portable Vocal Booth, which is a much larger set up and may offer a different benefit?

TIA

Robert

Hopefully a moderator will move this thread for you - probably into the 'other equipment' one.

Hey Robert,
Take a look at the bottom of this page. There's a list of similar threads which might be useful to you.

I can't really give any advice because I've never owned one of those.
I just made up some 4" rock wool panels a while ago and use those.
They're 4'x2', but I made a pair of 2'x2' with the left overs, which are really useful.

I've had an RF Pro since they came out and I use it a lot as do my friends.

Whether you buy the sE or the Real Traps, they will both do a similar job, speaking in generalities.

What is just as important is the fact that the microphone diaphragm will be pointed AWAY from either unit so be sure you take care of your sound issues where the mic will be pointed towards.
If you have read Sound On Sound Magazine over the years, you will see that many people use duvets and blankets BEHIND the vocalist while using the sE or Real Traps.

I'm very fortunate to have had lengthy discussions about both units quite a while ago with both James Young, Managing Dir. of sE and Ethan Winner, Co-Owner of RealTraps and IMHO, ONE OF EACH would be great!
