How are you guys setting up CEP's buffers?
I saw in another thread that you get some pretty good track counts with Cool Edit Pro.
I'm running CEP 2.1 on a P-III 600 with 384 ram and a 20 gig HD, it seems that when I get upwards of 10 tracks or so, it really chokes up my HD, it runs like crazy.
I tried running 16 tracks, and unless I premix the entire session, after a few seconds the premix meter will start to drop, and after about 30-40 seconds the audio will get choppy.
I have tried adjusting the number and size of the buffers many times, it doen't seem to matter, an e-mail from their tech support just told me not to run real-time effects ( I only run 1 quickverb on buss "A", with all tracks routed ), and also to premix the entire session, but that's pretty lame, because as soon as you touch a fader, the premix is shot, and I'm right back to the problem again.
I can run Sonar 2.2 XL on the same machine and get 32 tracks (easily) and around 30 - 35 plugins, after that the plugins strain my CPU pretty good, but the raw track count doesn't choke up the HD at all, it runs nice and smooth.
Thanks for any help on this, I would like to be able to really use CEP for multi-tracking.
I have Windows 2000 Professional on the machine, and am recording 32 bit float 44.1 so it's not a sample rate thing, I just wish it would work more comparably to Sonar.
