i am looking at buying a schecter c-1 classic.....like this:

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7...ase_pid/513072/

i have never played this guitar before...........i played my friend's paul reed smith custom 22 and fell in love with the thing.........and this guitar looks just like it.......i just want to know if anyone here has played this guitar? or any schecter? they have a good rep? just want to know if the guitar would be worth the investment........thanks alot

I have a schector c-1+ It has served me well, although it needs a little fret work. I can't remeber how long ago I got it, but I do remeber it was the day that John Entwisle (spelling?) died. So figure out when that is and that tells you how long I have had it.

My guitarist has a C-1 elite or whatever. NICE guitar. I love it.

I have the C1 Elite

It is my favorite guitar period. I have had PRS as well in the past, do yourself a favor and save a few grand.. Get the Schecter, you won't be sorry at all!!

i have a schecter c1 as well and its a nice guitar ... but i dont find myself playing er a lot ... donno ... to me it doesnt have "personality" ... dont get me wrong its a fine instrument, but i get tons of more vibes from my 74 Aria LP-copy ... the schecter just doesnt "speak" to me ... hard to describe ... probably more an issue of ME than the guitar :D

but prob. one of the best guitars you can get for that amount of $$$

I have owned a couple of PRS (real ones, not the imports) and also a Schecter C1 Elite. They are not very similar guitars, I must say. The construction is very different, the necks are very different. In some ways the Schecter design is superior to the PRS. For example, the neck joint. The Schecter neck joint is just awesome, so very smooth and comfortable. Another difference is that the Schecter is primarily a mahogany guitar (or whatever the body of the model you're looking at is made of). When I did surgery on my C1 I found that the maple top is actually a 1/16" maple vaneer which will not affect tone on any way. The PRS is actually a thick maple top, which can possibly affect the tone (except for on the all mahogany standards).

So, while on the surface they may "kinda" look alike, they are very very different guitars. BUT I don't honestly think the PRS is superior design or construction over the Schecter. And when you factor in price, the Schecter becomes outstanding. Most guitars in its price range (including the PRS imports) require (for me, at least) a complete tuners/bridge/electronics overhaul right out of the gate. But on the Schecter you're getting Grover tuners, TonePros bridge, and real Seymour Duncan pickups (on several models), as well as CTS pots on many models. So it's truly a complete guitar with its own value and function.

I would not hesitate to buy another. The only reason I even sold mine is that I was able to MAKE money from its resale. That says something about a guitar, too.

hmmm .... I had a PRS Santana II (import) and the tuners and bridge are WAY superior to any "factory" tuners / bridges I have on other guitars, and I do have *quality guitars", like Gibsons and Gretsch (it was only second to the qual. of my Carvin).

Electronics is always a matter of personal tastes ... but mechanically the corean PRS was one of the best guitars I had.

ymmv

cheers

Superior to real Grovers and a Tone Pros locking bridge?

ps did you end up selling your Gretsch? that was one great looking guitar!

no, I meant superior to any STOCK tuners, esp. the crappy Gibson "Deluxe" tuners ... (comparing OEM parts here) the only stock tuners that were better than the PRS import are the carvin's, but those are Grover locking tuners

and, no I did not sell the gretsch ...

cheers,

The Grovers and Tone Pros ARE stock on the Schecters...thats what I was saying.

ah... ok, I see ... mine didnt come with those - also my pickups are "duncan design" not "Seymour Duncan" ...

but then again, mine was $300ish

but for those specs you mention - you cant go wrong

That explains it ....

No wonder your Schecter doesn't "speak" to you.. Before I even changed strings on mine I swapped out those stock pickups. Now I have a guitar that I think is every bit as good, if not better than a PRS.

I will say that I have also owned the Tremonti SE PRS and it was a good deal for $368...

But it still is not as good as my Schecter C1...

My pickups on my c1+ are duncan designed also.

Apprently they've just recently changed several of the models to actual SD pickups. I think for the new model year...its on their website.

hmmm, Do they cost more now?

The costs are actually pretty similar. The classics have real SD's as do the blackjack's. All in all, i love schecter, and will always play schecter.

Ahhh

Did you see the C1 Hellraiser?? That is a sweet model with my favorite combo EMG 81, 85... It has inlays that resemble the crosses on the Tony Iommi SG neck..

I own the C1 Semi-Hollow... very nice guitar really good bang for your buck. I would highly recommend it to anyone over a 3K Les Paul or anything like that.
