sblive driver update

I've been trying to update the driver for my SBLive 5.1 using the download from creative. When I attempt to open the setup file, an error message pops up and says I have no soundblaster hardware installed on my machine. Creative support was no help. I have tried changing the card's location, fooling around with IRQ's, praying, dancing,etc.... Nada. To be honest, it's really just a matter of principle since I'll be getting a "real" (or at least better) soundcard for my birthday in a couple weeks. Audiophile 2496. But I'd still like to have the option of using the SBlive for games or something.
 
mbuster, I couldnt get the creative drivers to work with my live OEM. I downloaded the driver pack from Compaq`s site. They work with no problem.
 
I don't know too much about this. Is there any reason not to use the driver from the compaq site on my Dell?
 
...why would you upgrade the driver for SB Live! sake anyway ? I don't see better performance using Creative's driver. One with Windows (Microsoft's driver) do it even better for music working... or get KX Project Driver...

I found a huge improvement with the KX project drivers personally.
Although they are slightly glitchy at times.
