SBLive! & audio CD problem

Hi guys,

When I used my SBLive! to listen to mp3 and working on cakewalk, everything's fine.... meaning sound comes out from both speakers.

But when I listen to audio CD on my CDROM (Asus CD-RW), sound comes out only on my left speaker. Is there something I need to set in SBLive or there's a problem with my CD drive/ soundcard?

Please help!
 
I'm no expert on this stuff but I have an SB Live as well.
I can't think of any setting that effect only the CD-ROM playback. It may be a loose wire between your sound card and the drive. Check the CD audio cable connecting the two. Just an semi-educated guess though...
 
yeah, I have tried that... it is still the same.....

I have pretty much come to a conclusion that the problem is with the cable or the CDROM drive itself....
 
Did you remember to check the balance control of the cd player in the volume control panel?
 
I also would suspect a bad cable.

If you have the new Windows Media Player (ver. 7, I think) it will playback CD's digitally - bypassing the connection to your soundcard. Why don't you try that and see what you get. It would be one more indication that the cable is bad.

On a related note, I needed to get one of those cables for a new computer I built. CompUSA wanted $24.95 for it. Yeah, that's right, $24.95. Meantime I saw it from an online store for $0.95. I still haven't bought one yet, but for $24.95 the one from CompUSA better vacuum and do the wash as well.
 
Holy $#@$#@#! Those cables are usually about $1, maybe $3-4 for a really obscure type.

Compuseless is good for some things, but cables ain't one of them. Try any local computer store that builds its own "generic" PCs - they might give you one for free. The cables are very delicate, its probably a broken wire - if you have some electrical tape and / or sodering gun you can probably fix it.

maybe I'll try swapping the cable from my old PC....

Just got myself a pair of monitors and was excited to check out mixes of my fav albums.... now I am stuck with this problem..... sigh~
