Look Mom, I can play!
I have just installed SB Live! and everything seems to work okay - except for recording. When I plug a guitar or mic in, the sound levels are well down. The channel meters are barely registering audio input levels. Testing the system with the Microsoft record sound and play Control, turning up all the volumes, de muting everything, still no recording. And yet the mic is amplified on the system, but working at low volumes only.

Any suggestions?

Hi Paul881.
If your guitar or mic is plugged into the 'mic' on the back of your SBL card, move it to the 'Line In'.

That's what I was told to do and it changed the sounds for the good.
Good luck.

Thanks AlChuck. Yeah, I got all that done. I think the problem is that I didn't disable my AWE 64 driver before loading up the new Live! one. I now get an error message on boot up saying something like "there is a PCI conflict with SB. SB16 emulation cannot load." I think thats the problem.

Any suggestions how to disable my old AWE driver? I am a win 98 user.

Anybody got a telephone number of Creative tech support in the US. Their office hours are easier for me than the UK'. I notice they don't like giving any phone numbers out on their web sites!!!!

Disable old driver ?

Hey Paul, I'm the guy from Kansas City that wants to put vocals on your song, remember ? Anyway, to get rid of an old driver you will have to right click on my computer, click on properties, click on device manager, and look for something in the list like sound video and game controllers. click on the plus and if you have sblive and awe 64, highlight awe 64 and then click remove button on bottom of the screen. that should remove the awe 64 driver. You don't still have the awe 64 card in your computer do you ? If you do everytime windows starts it will try do load the driver for it. I had exactly the same problem when I put in my sblive. after that I haven't had any problems. Good Luck, Silver

I second that too

Oh yeah, I forgot that, I would take A1Mixman's suggestion on Liveware3. After you install the new driver, find the creative file in the program files folder on your hard drive, go to sblive, find the mixer and put a shortcut to the mixer on your desktop. Makes things a lot easier, and the windows mixer sucks ass imo. Silver

O Lord, please teach me to keep my big mouth shut til I know what am talking about!

:o

AlChuck,

I visited the oft seen support page from CW and printed it off, just on the off chance you were right and I hadn't been dilligent enough with my set up. I have about three copies of it somewhere and felt sure I had set it up all okay. And guess what? You were right, I hadn't enabled Line in 2. (until I had a sb Live! I never had a line in 2 before).

So I clicked on it and away I went.

It just goes to show, no matter how many times you think you have got it all covered, pride comes before a fall.

Many thanks, like so many others, I owe you. You are a star.

I turned my back and there were more posts!

Wow, by the time I had read AlChucks post checked my system out, and replied, there were more posts. Thanks a bunch all of you, I will definately take up all your suggestions. A1MixMan, I have the creative mixer, I just haven't had time to play with it yet. You got me started and hooked on soundfonts and thats what I am looking forward to playing with most. I am looking at a Roland Midi controler k/b for my next "goodie". See what you have started? lol And thanks for the creative info, hopefully I won't need it now but its always useful to know. I see you have started another thread regarding drums. I am working up to a post on that one.

Silverhammer, I must get you some of my music for you to add vocals to and I will be loading LiveWare 3.0. Good stuff.

Thanks again everyone. Looks like the emergency is over....for now.

Cool!

If I had a nickel for every time I was sure I'd done something when I actually hadn't, I'd be stinkin' rich by now...
