My SB Live card comes with software that let's you apply many real-time effects to the sound coming out of the computer, such as Concert Hall, Bathroom, Underwater, etc...
It applies these effects to all sources passing through the card. It has several nice guitar effects such as Auto Wah, Distortion and such, but I cannot record them. Even when I record in Cakewalk with the effect, if I turn the effect off and listen to the recording it is the normal guitar sound without the effect. Is there any way to record these effects?

To record these nifty effects you have to select "What you Hear" as the recording device in the windows mixer. Then the problem arises that you cannot playback & record at the same time (otherwise you record your input & playback onto one track). The only solution I found was to install another sound card (cheap) to be used as a playback device while I recorded "What you hear" from the Sound Blaster device.

Then I ditched the SB live card, got an ASIO 2.0 compatible card & record live through DX & VST effects (with low latency). I still use a second card as the recording device (not cheap), but the quality is sooo much better.

Computer hardware/software is an expensive habit that only escalates into more expensive things. Proceed at your own risk.

The APS driver gives you an asio driver for your sblive. You can check HD rec if you want to record the effects as well. I can now use my sblive with logic and Nuendo cos of the asio driver.

Cheers
John :)

I probably would have kept my SB Live if the APS drivers were availible at the time. Sounds interesting.
