If anyone is running a machine with a MOTU sound card AND SB Live both on the same machine, how well does it work? Any conflicts or fighting between them?

In General, how bad is it to have a gaming or regular sound card on the same machine as your professional card?

Is it dangerous?

Is this a stupid question?

No - why not use the Motu for audio and the blaster for midi?

cheers

When I had my SB Live and MOTU 1224 in the same machine I got BAD clicks and pops that would not go away. I tried every suggestion I could find for eliminating those artifacts but could not improve the situation at all. I finally had to take the Live card out and put my old SB AWE64 Gold back in, and now I'm back to pristine recordings. And FYI, when the SBLive and MOTU were in there having problems I tried removing everything except my video card and those two cards and made sure they were not having an IRQ conflict or anything, tried moving them to different slots, etc. They just couldn't get along no matter what I did.

I suspect the clicks and pops were because of missmatched sampling rates. The SBLive is set at 48Khz internally. You were probably trying to run them both at 44.1Khz right??

OK.........

So can you change the sampling rate of the SB?
What about an example of the MOTU 1208 with the SB live, anybody running that?

These clicks and pops would happen when I wasn't even using the SB Live at all. I had all input and output running through the MOTU 1224 and clicks and pops were everywhere. It was just a playback thing - even though the artifacts many times came up in the same places on playback, they were not recorded in the actual tracks' wav files and they went away when I removed the SB Live card. I have no idea how to explain it, but that's what was happening - just having the SB Live in the machine in any slot using any settings (not even actually being used for anything) caused noise with the MOTU 1224. The noises happened in Cool Edit Pro and Logic Audio, and I don't even have any drivers for the SBLive set up in Logic - just the ASIO driver for the MOTU.
