Yes, I downloaded the demo. It looks like quite a superb environment. I’ve been looking for quality multitrack software to purchase. So far it blows everything else out of the water. I think I may end up buying it.

I imported a few wav files and kicked them around for a while. I have duel monitors and I pulled the mixer window to the second monitor. The full sized wide-channel-strip window looks like it would be genuinely useful. (Although, the demo can’t display it) I really like that return mixer too. I set up a post fade “Cross Delay” FX on an AUX bus. To my surprise, it worked just the way I had hoped. That is something I couldn’t get CEP to do. I followed along with some of the help file instructions and had no problem figuring things out. It looks like it supports VST, DX, and (their own) IQS plug-ins. Cool!!!

It is well thought out and very responsive even on a slower computer. What do you say folks? Anybody else?

WOW..somebody knows what it is!

I'm kinda suprized that not many people I guess hasn't heard of it. I do think it looks great. I was watching the videos and it looked nice. Another "big dollar" program out their is pyramix. Never used it but I've seen some top mastering places use it.

I was using SAW since around 199...5? Then SAW Plus SAW Pro, yada, yada.

As stable as it is, and as eloquently coded, for some reason I just never cared for it. They were about to be gone a year or so ago... I think someone picked up the tab from somewhere...

I have an associate that still swears by it and uses an early version that still fits on a single floppy disk.

Haven't tried the latest on it... I'd assume that it's still a solid performer.

I bought the full version of SAWStudio a couple of months ago, and have to say, it is by far the best software for audio recording/mixing that I have ever used, I must have been playing with the demo for a whole month before buying it.

I also picked up all three of the SS plugins from RML Labs, and the Anwida SS modulation pack, very nice stuff here, IMO.

I think it's really good that Bob has put out a 300 dollar version of SAWStudio, I'm sure there are a lot of people who could use 24 tracks that sound this good! :D

Someone on this board mentioned it in a thread.

I went to check it out and have been watching the demo videos over and over again.

I wish I could afford this and when I can it will be my software of choice!

I've posted a few things here and there about it. Mostly just links to the video page.

I started a thread called "Free Online Porn" or something like that, with a link to the SAW website. (as a joke, not spam).

I don't understand why this software is so "underground".

probably the 2500 price tag has something to with it being'underground'

but am i missing something does it do soemthing that PT, Nuendo or samplitude does? if it doesn't have track freeze or object editing its not fukkin with samplitude as an editor or mixing program 2 essential tools for each IMO

$2,500 for no ASIO or WDM driver support??? I don' think so! As far as I can tell, there is no softsynth support either.

I downloaded the demo and the UI is confusing as hell! I really have a bone to pick when people bypass the standard Windows conventions/guidelines for software user interface functionality.

Of course it supports ASIO and WDM drivers, keep playing with the demo, the core program is audio recording/editing/mixing, for softsynths you can add the MidiWorkshop, or have your favorite sequencer sync to it.

You can automate almost every control on the mixer channels, in automation mode you can highlite or "mark" a section of the track, and completely readjust the mixer channel, after the marked area plays, the mixer channel will automatically reset itself back to how it was setup before the marked area, so IMO this is right there with Samp's object editing, and "freezing" a track can be done in the same fashion that it can be done with Sonar, not quite as nice as a one click solution such as Samp's, but still a usable method.

The built in keyed noise gates and compressors can be used for ducking and de-essing, you can also route the prefader FX patchpoint either before or after the EQ and dynamics sections of the virtual console.

The Levelizer plugin ($100 - seperate) when used as a peak limiter is so transparent, it has become my "home" mastering tool of choice.

SAWStudio has NO copyright protection crap in it at all, If you need to re-install it for any reason you can just do it, you don't have to get any authorization codes or use a dongle.

When you e-mail tech support, you get a reply (usually very fast too) from the creator of the software, there is also a place on the website where you can chat with Bob live, if he's at the computer.. also take a good look at the online training section of the SS website, I don't know of any other software package that has anything even remotely like this.

I guess one of the main reasons I like it so much is because as a recorder/mixer it works very much like hardware, you can setup a mixer channel as an input, and record from that channel to any track on the multitrack, using the built in EQ, noise gate, compressor, and any pre fader FX plugins before going to "tape", while at the same time using the post fader FX, and any aux send/return FX to monitor wet.

While it certainly doesn't have all the bells and whistles of some programs, it does do what it does VERY well, it truely replaces and exceeds my 1/2" 16 track TASCAM reel to reel, Mackie 24x8 console, as well as a rack full of compressors and FX units in a way that Sonar 2.2 XL or Cool Edit Pro 2 never really could, and the sound quality is absolutely top notch.
