Saving Pro Tools Sessions

I know this is a stupid question, and this may be the wrong forum. I would appreciate any help with my problem:

I have a friend with Pro Tools 7 LE and I have Pro Tools 6.4 LE. How does my friend save his sessions so I am able to read them?

Hmmm, not real sure you have to do anything special. I import 5.x sessions all the time with no problems. Just burn the session folder to a dvd and import, should work fine. Somebody will be along to correct me if I'm wrong.

PT 7 is forwards compatible only (meaning you can read 4.x-6.4 files on it, but you can't open 7 files on anything but 7). What he needs to do is this:

file-->Save Session Copy---> and then select it as a 6.x/5.x or whatever file. This is also a good way for transfering files across from on computer to the other if you select "copy all audio files" as well. Sometimes PT will split files across multiple HDs (i don't know why or when it does this..) so doing that makes sure you don't lose any files..

this is a user setting. You have to make PT do it, so the default should always be to save in your session folder.
I'm not sure LE allows Round Robbin allocation like HD does...but in LE if you simply 'add files' to your session, and don't copy, you could run into the problem you are describing. In the 'preferences' there is an option to always copy.

I think it might be worth it for you, it will sure make any collaborative work a tad simpler.

I'm guessing you have a digi 001 and can't upgrade to 7.0 cause thats were I'm at too!!

i really really really hope they don't pull the quit supporting there own gear thing again with the 002 cause I'm about to buy one and i heard talks of the 003 so i will seriously quit using protools and switch if they pull that

there losing costumers left and right so i hope they learn from there mistakes. People will buy the 003 regardless!

lol, well you can't expect a company to offer upgrades for all their equipment forever.
You have some customers complaining they want new features and others complaining that they want their old equipment to remain compatible. A company can't make advances if they constantly have to worry about making their older products compatible too.
This is how technology works. Just because the latest Mac OS version doesn't work with your older computer, it's not Apple's fault. They need to move on and offer new technology. If you want to use the latest and greatest stuff out there, you need to dish out more money. This has been going on for years and years.

No one forces you to upgrade your software. You don't HAVE to have the latest and greatest. But Digi does offer a hardware exchange so you can get the 002 cheap.

The 003 has been talked about for a very long time but we still have yet to see anything. The closes thing they have come up with is the M-Audio Project Mix...but that's not even really Digi's stuff.

yea but its alittle different digi cuts off support so you have to buy there new gear

I know there is a crack thing to run tdm 6.9 on a digi001 pretty funny digi could not make 6.9 le compatible for its 001 users. So in my eyes its nothing like a computer because there hardware is perfectly capable for newer software!


All I'm saying is I'm about to go spend over a 1000 bucks and i really don't care if digi offers an upgrade from 002-003 when it comes out I'm just gonna be real upset if they cut off support in the near after i spend all this money i work very hard for!!

if you mean technical support, then that's incorrect.
I have a system even older than the 001 and I've contacted Digi several times on helping me with it.

The 001 was first shipped in 1999. I think it's time for Digi to move on and create new things that are compatible with their software. Plus, the PCI technology itself is becoming dated. A lot of computers can't even use them right out of the box anymore.

And I'd love to see TDM plugs work on the 001

Products become obsolete. Get used to it. No one is forcing you to upgrade to the 002. And no one is forcing you to use Pro Tools.

I guess that the Digi 001 is capable of TDM processing for plug-ins. Oh yeah, and audio too since that's where you get your upped track count from (the HD/TDM cards handle all of the I/O and voice work). Since the 001 does neither, I'd like to see how that works any different than what LE does.
