Hey everyone,

So I just joined this forum today, and thought I'd post a music video I made with a friend. It's about LSD and it was assigned as a project for our health class.

I hope you like it!

Thanks in advance for comments, and I'll gladly critique something of yours in exchange.

Not sure if it was really warning kids not to try it or not.
Looked like a lot of fun. :D

It might have had more drama. I started getting a bit bored around 4 minutes.
The music sounds good, but again, it was droning on and on.
The video was done well.

Thanks for the comments!

Yeah, people have said that it's too long and boring, but I feel like I can't shorten it. If it's any shorter I feel like it won't have the same effect. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Edit it down to 3 minutes.

- looks like you got a hold of some bad shit...

Which parts would you recommend we take out?

well like for instance - the opening scene where you pop up in front of the mirror, the empty mirror drags out really really way too long - drop down, then edit in another clip, then come back and pop up - (the video of an empty bathroom mirror is just boring) - put another clip in there so you can keep the timing. after you come up you could edit out half of you looking in the mirror and still get the same effect across

as far as removing things - the key to good video isnt so much as what scenes you remove, its just a matter of editing the time down on the scenes. The very first scene opening the door could be half as long - the high-five only needs like a quarter second where your hands meet.

Just take every single clip you have in there and reduce it by 50% - effective editing is removing every unneeded moment of video.

make faster cuts and scene changes. As far as the song - since I guess its a 6 minute song I don't really know what to tell you there - maybe make an edited 3 minute version?

You have to consider the attention span of the audience, and to keep them interested your going to need to have faster cuts. I don;t think there is any specific scene yo need to cut they all just need to be trimmed

HTH

Thanks a lot for the really in depth response. It's very helpful.

Do you think that if we added more action to the video that would be enough, or do you still think the song is too long?

Maybe I could cut out the repeat of the chorus and bridge at some parts.

Well, this was certainly interesting an ambitious. Nice job.

Was this supposed to be a warning about what can go wrong? If so, nice job not being too heavy handed, but I think I struggled with how you got from point A to point B. I mean...staring in the mirror - check. Feeling the grass on the lawn - got it. Hugging the tree - ok. Grabbing a knife?? Wtf? Never in all my years did I see anyone do that.

I'd just suggest that there be more of a reason and/or build up to how it gets to that dark place, 'cause personally I didn't follow that.

Also, the music had a lot of texture and was quite interesting. However, like Pink Floyd (saw the shirts), it was pretty dark. If I was out of my gourd listening to this stuff I might go to a dark place too. Next time put on some Allman Bros. or happy Beatles. Trust me on that :).

Thanks for the replies,

The part where he grabs the knife was actually supposed to be my hallucination (I'm the one in the blue Pink Floyd shirt). It was supposed to start being a bad trip. Pretty much every shot where you can't see the kid in red's face was a hallucination of mine -- I guess we have to work on making that more obvious.
