When I click on download, it asks me if I want to download an Active X viewer. It doesn't matter if I say yes or no, I can't get the mp3. This didn't happen last time. Have you changed something on your page? And yes, it is a truly ugly page. Belongs on people's ignore list.

Haven't changed a thing. Two people have downloaded so far, no problem. Have you changed anything on your system recently? Maybe shift-reload the page and try again? Thanks for the insult!

Ah what the hell I guess I'll just post a direct link:
Nothing new on the website anyhow.

The link works great.
And the song is cool too.... Very depressing... I like :)

Nice... nice & dark. :) The visual aid helped.

very nice.....interesting arrangement.....the dynamic change at 2:50 scared the dogshit out of me......great job.....

what ever happened to that little clip you and S8-N did a while back?...I remember hearing it in voice chat one night....

Yes... very good song. Makes me want to go buy some sandals.

Weird stuff Slack. I really like the intro parts 00:13 - 00:43, was hoping you would bring that back again in a simiiar way. This is Acid? Cool samples you have there. You could easily put vocals over this, but I guess that wasn't your intention!

Nice work! What's next Friday or Monday?

Emeric, actually that's all fruity loops. I tried a copy of Acid and while I found it to have several handy features, it....blah, no time for explanations: it SUCKS. Fruity loops is pretty limited too, and creating this song was a pain. I'm now checking into Buzz Tracker and various other software.

Some of the samples were fruity stock, but the piano, dulcimer, arcostrings, and sax I found here: http://www.soundbank.hu/soundware.html#instrument

Thanks for listening man!

Gidge, the little clip me & s8-n did....the chat song? Yeah that was a cool idear. Kinda got hung up. Thanks for listening.

Jim, long time no see? Where you been?

Warlock, Ed, Ametth, & Suzie: thanks for your comments!

Interesting song Slackmaster. Not the kind of stuff i'm used to listening to though. The mix was excellent! Was that a guitar that sounded like a harpsichord? Great job!

I liked this Slack, even though you can't read this because you are ignoring me.

I am writing from memory because I listened last night in the studio. Your song has the honor of being the first one from the clinic that I d/l'd with the studio puter and listened to on my PS6's instead of my computer speakers or cans.

Wow! I blasted this ditty and I think I scared my neighbor. If I remember correctly, the change @ 2:50 or so was my favorite part. It kicked my ass. I also had a TV on in the studio - the sound was turned down, and your music was matching up quite nicely with certain moving pictures.

What is the sound that drones throughout? It sounds like a sustained, manipulated moan with a scream thrown in every once in awhile for good measure.

I think a live acoustic guitar matching the dulcimer would add a little pizzazz, although pizzazz is not lacking in the first place. (NOTE TO SELF: USE THE WORD "PIZZAZZ" MORE IN CONVERSATION. IT MAKES YOU SOUND COOL.)

Good stuff, BDC!

langleyt,

The "guitar that sounds like a harpsicord" is a dulcimer patch. Pretty cool sound. It's from that site I linked to above in my last reply.

Brad,

Thanks man. The sound in the background is the teletubbies baby + a pitch shift plugin + a little random automation.

jesus loves us all.

This is, man, WOW. Those sounds are hot. Which sound module did you use? I am digging the flow of the song, the space that is around the instruments and the clarity and authority of the mix.

great.

Hey Slack, this was wild. I liked it. You've really developed a new style for yourself with your last few tunes. I remember you mentioning around New Years that you wanted to change your attitude toward writing...you've done it. I wish I could be as adventuresome as you've become. What's the secret?

Good stuff. I'll have to listen to it more critically to be helpful, but I really dig the creativity.

Okay, you're in trouble now - I figured out how to download it...

Nice and dark. That cross-rhythm stuff at about 1.15 works really well. Piano sounds, koto sounds, tympani and string sounds - you've gone all classical on us, Boden. :D

You could turn it into a song. Vocals start somewhere around the 1 minute mark, and instead of a chorus you could use that cross-rhythm section. The child's scream is really effective as a marker.

You're kind of a one-man pink floyd on this one.

You used a real melodica toward the end, right?

Yeah, you make this stuff sound easy. Get into this and develop it, Slack. Work on structure and songs that go somewhere. You could do whole dialogues with those samples. Damn... the possibilities...

I didn't read the other reviews first. I think you've got another good one here - two songs for the album already, and you can toss them off in an evening. So which one's coming out first - this album, or the compilation CD? :D

Good work, bozedude.

Dobro,

What's a melodica? Are you perhaps referring to the saxaphone sample? All of the instruments were sampled on this one. The drums were fruityloops and various other samples, and the melodic instruments I found at the website I mentioned above (they're free, check em out!). "Monday" has live trombones in it.

Right now I'm just sort of experimenting. Fruity Loops is horrible for this sort of thing. Doing chords is a big fat pain in the butt. What I'm working on though is just creating multiple rythyms and melodies that work together. Like in this one there are three (well, two and a half) melodies and at 2:13 I combine them all into one. I really like doing that. Sometimes it just happens to work out, kinda lucky like....but it's also cool to create one complex melody part and then strip out sub-melodies from it. I don't really know what I'm talking about...I just click a bunch of buttons and the computer makes noises.

CMiller,

There's no key to becoming adventerous, and I certainly don't even feel adventerous. It's just that a) I've become very bored with music in general and b) I've keep in contact with people who I think are amazing. When I hear something at drstawl does for instance, it really makes me want to try something new and completely foreign. When I hear something that ametth does, it really makes me want to try to create nice warm melodies. And when I hear something that S8-N does, it makes me want to write something with a lot of power. Finally, I always have Ed listen to my mixes with the goal of eventually having him say, "welp, that sounds about as good as it's going to." and so on... :)

CyanJaguar,

Thanks very much! Again I'll just say that I used the samples from the site mentioned above. They're just raw wave files. I don't have any soundfont capability or anything like that. I'm not even doing MIDI, it's all just programmed. I'd like to get a MIDI keyboard. Last night I had this weird dream that I was at some Walmart-type store and they had all these MIDI keyboards for $20, but they only had 5 keys. Not sure what that means :)

I'm trying to finish up work on "Monday" and "Tuesday." I think people will be semi-suprised at the difference from these last two. Basically I've had three songs come up in the past two weeks since I've been better, plus one song from a couple weeks before that. Lots of variety in style I think. It was my new years rant resolution to try a bunch of different stuff.
