Hi everyone, I'm embarking on the great adventure of outfitting my own (humble) home studio. I'm using tape right now, though I plan to go to digital within the next six to eight months. I'd like to purchase near-field monitors and am considering the Fostex PS3.1 Powered Monitors and the Samson DMS80 Desktop Monitor System (with the Samson S40 powered sub). Is anyone familiar with either set? Does anyone know where I can get hold of reviews on entry level, near-field monitors? Any recommendations for other manufacturers?

Many thanks!

Ive heard of people using these, but you could do so much better for not much more....Yorkville YSM-1's are $89 a piece and compare to the "big boy" near fields...you can power them with a home stereo reciever or a dedicated studio type amp.....you can go to www.yorkville.com and click on reviews......

with all of the other recording gear that fostex puts out why dont they make a good professional monitor. Ive heard the fostex monitors at the local mars and for 200.00 you dont get much better than regular computer speakers.

go for the yorkviles, the halfler m5, and the tannoy proto-j are priced lower and are real monitors.

thanks, darrin_h2000

any suggestions for websites or other vendors where the monitors are available? (know of any reviews that are available?)
