Since I'm on an extreme budget, I've been looking at the Samson R-21 for vocals and possibly micing an amp or two. I'd love to get my hands on some SM-57's but don't really have it in the budget....

So.......do Samson mics carry a good reputation, are they junk, or is there another inexpensive alternative....besides selling my body for science? ;-)

I'd appreciate any input. Thanks!

Shure? Sure! do you have one to offer? I'd be interested.......

for Shure!

sorry....couldn't resist

he he I'm keeping mine...

...but there are always some 57's for sale on eBay

;)

I've been on the lookout for some more 57's on ebay, and it's tough to find them under 75 bucks. They're not much more than that brand new. I'm keeping a lookout though ...somebody'll get desperate sooner or later (long live the cheapskates)

:)

You can get 57's online at AMS or Musicians Friend brand new for like $80.Sometimes they even throw in a cable.

To get back to the original question,I had a couple of Samson S11's and they weren't too bad.I think I paid like $50 for the pair.I don't think they would stand up to a 57 but you get what you pay for.In the battle of the really cheap mics they are better than the cheap Nady mics(SP 9) that I had.

If you can afford it get the 57's.You'll always find a use for it compared to the Samson or Nady mics that you'll probably end up giving away like I did.

i used the samson r-11's for vocals and sometimes micing a guitar cab during practice and they work alot better than i would have thought. they were like 70 bucks for 3 i think. i just bought a 57 and a 58 though, hehe

Go To Musicgoround.com They have 57's anywhere from 30.00 and up.

Look for Unidyne III on ebay. Old version of 57, same mic, cheap. Make sure you get one wih XLR connection and low impedence.
