Hi.

This set would appear to be very good value but has anyone here tried these mics?

Any tips on micing a kick drum without cutting a hole in the display head?

Should I just take the display head off and put the mic in the drum, or leave it on and keep the mic outside?

Thanks

i had these mics....don't expect much at all, ...i upgraded quickly to AKG D112 on the kick, sm57 on the snare 2 MXL603's as OH's and Sennheiser 421 on toms....wasnt happy with the sound of the samsons at all...very poor sounding mics if you want to make good mixes...IMO

I dont know the price of the set of samsons...but you would probably be more pleased with less mics for the same price...like stated before...rather than 7 crappy mics...3 or 4 well placed nicer mics will do the job better...

These were my first mic(s), to be honnest they arent that bad, compared to some other drum mic packages,
i.e I chose these over the PGs especially for what you are paying for them. Yet the only real reason i bought them,
was I didnt have any good drum mics at the time and i had a small project coming up.
Like y2j i upgrade fairly quickly, to; AKG D112, SM57, MXL 603s, Sen E604.

ill second the 604's...but I have found a little hidden treasure in my ATM29HE...its an awesome snare mic...I have a couple of 57's and they get their share of use...but never on snare anymore....they are about the same price as the 57..but in my opinion...much better on snare...

I actually just recorded drums w/Samson CO2's as overheads

and the worked pretty well, better some AT's and MXL pairs that I have..

there are better mikes around than Samsons for the same price

The Audix Fusion drum mic package is a pretty decent start. You'll probably upgrade each mic over time, but that's the case which pretty much any "drum mic pack".

Thanks

Hi Guys, thanks for the info.

I already have an AKG D112, Shure SM57 and a couple of AKG condensers for overheads, so I really only need some mics to close mic the toms.

I might just get another 2 or 3 SM57s but I'd prefer a clip on mic for the toms.

Another set I thought about getting is from my native Scotland:

Red5 Audio

There are lots of good reviews of these mics, but they are not available in store and have to be ordered directly from the supplier.

Anyone used any Red5 gear??

Thanks,
