Samson g track issues

Hi...I just bought a Samson g track...I use windows xp and recording software is mixcraft 5 and sonar le....when I record vocals on both programmes I get the same problem...when the mic is turned up high it distorts and when I turn it down it is too low...I read the instructions for the g track and it said to go to tool bar, recording devices and turn the g track to full...but this did not change...I also have a takstar gl 100 USB condenser mic and I don't have this issue...can any please give me some advice on this issue

is it a usb mic if its you have to set up the mics volume inside Mixcraft there's a slider above the arm button where you can control the volume of the Mic without adjusting it on the actual mic
