I need an inexpensive large condenser mic for recording a drum kit (doing a three mic method - this will be the mic in front of the kit - using AKG C1000's for the overheads) and I am trying to make my mind up between the Samson CL8 and the Apex 420 - I don't know a lot about mics, but from what I can tell they have similar features (both can switch to omni mode) and are in a similar price range. I don't have any place to go to to A/B these two - have any of you ever compared them? Should I be considering a different mic in the sub-$200 range?
