Currently, I have been doing all my recording/mixing/etc. on a Tascam 2488. Now I'm interested in exporting the files to my computer to do some more advanced editing/mastering. Would Sampitude 6.0 Master be a good place to start? And is $80 a fair price?

I love Samplitude

I use Samplitude Producer, the multitrack version of the software. It is absolutely amazing. I bought it years ago for multi-hundreds of bucks.

Short of buying Sound Forge or WaveLab fro About $300, A copy of Samplitude for $80 is a great deal.
It has some of the best noise reduction algorthyms in the buisness. The crossfades are flawless when set up right.

Thanks for your input! Is it fairly easy to learn or is there a steep learning curve associated with it?

Honestly...
The multitrack program is really really deep.
The basic functions are really easy and intuitive, you will get those right off the bat, but the depth of all the editing you are capable of is astounding and is not well explained in the 500 or so page manual that came with it.
There are many different ways to do the same thing. I am sure it was made that way to accomodate a bunch of work habits and styles.

Since the Master is mainly a 2 track editor, it is probably going to be straightforward enough for you to use without issue.
