Need a little help here....I just installed Samplitude v6.0 Master last night. When I try to play the demo track, I get an error message that reads:

"Cannot open waveform output device 'Realtek HD Rear Output'!
Reason: The specified format is not supported or cannot be translated. Use the capabilities function to determine supported formats."

Can someone translate that for me in simple-ease? I'm guessing the problem is because playback is set to 24-bit, which my soundcard doesn't support? But if that's the case, there has to be a way to change the bit-rate to 16. BTW, the manual didn't help. It talks about changing the bit-rate, but isn't very clear on how to do this. Thanks!

its been a while since ive used v6.0, ( i use 7.0 exclusively now) but from what i remember, they are basically the same... just some skin differences...

but anyway, at the top find "options." click that, then "system/audio."

since youre using a factory soundcard, like me haha, make sure the "internal resolution" is set to 16 bit, the "device resolution/driver communication" is set to 24 bit, and the "driver system" is set to MME..... thats what mine is set to, and it works just fine.

if that doesnt help, pm me and i'll try and help... theres a couple other settings that you need to change once you first go to use it, so maybe we can get this workin for ya.

Look in the manual again for "SAMPLE-rate" and "bit-DEPTH"

If you're finding references to "bit-rate" you're way off in the wrong secion...

Bit-rate...sample-depth...gigaram??? ...yeah - I'm basically what you would call computer illiterate. But I guess did mean "bit-depth".

A little background...I do all my tracking/mixing/mastering on a Tascam 2488, but now want to transfer the wav files to the computer for more editing/mastering options.

I'm at my work computer now so I'm going off memory now, but there is an option under: file -> convert audio -> change bit-depth. However this option was grayed-out and not available.

I also have Magix Music Studio Deluxe 10 and when I load the Samplitude demo file into that, it plays fine. Should I just upgrade my soundcard?

Thanks for the advice whjr15! I'll give that a try once I get home.

whjr15 - that did the trick...thanks! I'm still wondering if I should just upgrade my soundcard, since the Tascam 2488 records in 24-bit. But in the meantime, I've got some reading to do. The Samplitude manual is the size of a college textbook. Thanks again!

no problem.. if you ever need any other questions answered, feel free to ask.. samplitude is VERY user friendly once you get to know the basics...ive even got a couple friends to switch over to samplitude from their cubase and sonar, after a couple sessions at my house... so dont let the huge manual intimidate you!

happy to help
