For say i have a .wav file that i want to assign to my keyboard, how do i go about doing that in cubase SX 3? If its possible, will it:

map the .wav file at different frequencies to each respective key on the keyboard?
map the .wav file to only one key?
map the .wav file to every key so that each key plays the exact same sound?

people recommended using gigastudio for sampling. would it work as a plugin to cubase or what? i dont understand how it relates to cubase or what i want to do, which is map whatever .wav i aquire to the keyboard so i can play it at all different frequencies on a piano.

You will need a software (or hardware) sampler for that. Basically you could use something like Halion or Kontakt to load those wav files into, then you can play them as if you were playing soft synths. W/o the use of samplers, there is no way to trigger wavefiles from the keyboard, much less map them to specific keys.

Personally, I wouldn't recommend Gigastudio, unless you're after those huge orchestral libraries, as its sound engine is quite limited (partly the reason why you need gigabytes upon gigabytes of samples), plus you need a dedicated computer to run the damn thing.

My recommendation would be Kontakt 2, Halion 3, Mach 5 (although Mach 5's filters aren't the greatest), VSampler. Take a look at them, I believe they all have demo versions, and see which one suits your needs the best.

Soundfonts,if you want something free.

But first you must learn how to program them with VIENNA SF creater.

and how do i get these programs to work with cubase? can i load them as a plugin? or will i have to record whatever sampling track using a seperate program and export that as an audio track to cubase?

no you have a VST loader,i forgot how to call it,but you load them in your VST player....umm crap i forgot how its called.I'm not at the program right now,but i'l tell you later unless someone else beats me to it.

so you load them into cubase as a VST plugin? or is a vst player something different?

ok go to: devises/VST instruments and load them there.

if you using Halion, then just load it there, but if using soundfonts, you need a soundfont player that supports vst.http://www.rgcaudio.com/sfz.htm its a free player.

to crate a soundfont you'll need a soundblaster card,and a vienna software.

HTH :D

Yes, just like you'd load a VST synth, like the A1.
