Sampling for Home Studio 2004

I just upgraded from HS 2002 to HS 2004, and the box mentions a "Dyad DXi Sampler." Is it possible to take a *.wav file as a source to be sampled, then use the sample as an instrument for composition in HS 2004? Sure hope so...

Yes it is. It's just a matter of how to do it. I haven't used the Dyad Sampler, but I'm sure it works pretty much like any sampler...
 
Dyad uses Soundfont files (.sf2). I'm very ignorant about these things, but I don't see any mention of wave files in the Dyad manual. I don't know how to go about making Soundfount files from wavefiles, but it seems like that would be a thing for you to research. BTW, right-click on the Dyad sampler to get the help window for it.

Thanks very much for the advice. Where does the basic list of instrument sounds get stored in Home Studio? Is it a file I can replace with alternative sounds?

There are no instrument sounds within Home Studio. It gets it's sounds from external sources (sound card, external midi device, or DXi).

As long as it's only MIDI data, it can generate whichever sound you want, as long as you have a MIDI Source.

What soundcard do you have? Is it a SoundBlaster? If so you have native support for soundfonts.
